Seaside Release Date!

According to various sources, the release date for Seaside (including the Rio Grande US release) will be "the week of October 19th." Everybody get your pre-orders in!

Dominion has been named the Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) for 2009. :-)

Confirmed: Intrigue release date

Jay Tummelson (of Rio Grande Games) has confirmed on BoardGameGeek that Intrigue will be debuting at Origins at the end of this month, and will be available in retail locations in early July.

For those of you who also play Race for the Galaxy, the second expansion for that game ("Rebel vs. Imperium") will be following the same schedule.

All Intrigue cards spoiled!

Rather than posting the spoilers here, I'll just link to the BoardGameGeek page.

So, uh, anyone from Pittsburgh going to Origins who doesn't mind picking up a copy for me?

Compiled Intrigue info

Here's the info that is available so far (compiled by someone on BGG) about the upcoming release of Dominion: Intrigue.

Cut to avoid spoilersCollapse )

Three Intrigue cards revealed

Three cards from the upcoming "Intrigue" set have been revealed on BoardGameGeek.

Cut for anyone who wishes to avoid spoilersCollapse )

BGG Promo cards arrived!

Well, I arrived home from work yesterday to find a happy little package waiting for me: 22 Dominion cards (20 play-cards plus 2 placeholders) sent to me from BoardGameGeek.

So, if you ordered your Envoy and Black Market cards early enough to be included in the first round of shipments (which I believe means prior to Feb. 25th or 26th), watch your mail!

First impressions:
* Envoy: Great if you have just played a "+2 Actions" cards (Village or Festival), or if you have a very money-rich deck. Or if it's the only action in your hand, and it's a desperation move. Plays similarly to the Library and Smithy, except that your left-hand neighbor gets to try to screw with your play style (as drquuxum kept doing to me last night).

* Black Market: In retrospect, I'm of two minds about Black Market. On the one hand, it's a great way to get that one card into your deck that you were weeping about not seeing in the Supply. On the other hand, it completely invalidates the "make a strategy out of the cards on the table" aspect of the meta-game, which is one of the things I like the most about it; now, it just becomes a scramble to get "the cards I need to make my favorite strategy work."

I'll definitely keep the placeholders in the random shuffle, but I'm not sure I'll be building card sets around either of them.

Other thoughts?

On Intrigue, pre-ordering, and your FLGS

(Preface: I'm pretty sure everyone here is familiar with the term, but just in case, "FLGS" = "Friendly Local Gaming Store.")

Cool Stuff, Inc. has Intrigue (the first full-box expansion for Dominion) up for pre-order, with a projected release date of May/June 2009. (Of course, this being Rio Grande Games, this means we'll probably see it sometime before the end of the year. Probably. ;-) ) Their pre-order price is $28.99, plus shipping.

That part was the PSA. Now, for my editorial opinion on the matter (and just to be sure, I'm taking off the "moderator" hat to say this):

The underlying is the opinion of the author and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of this community, LiveJournal, or LiveJournal, Inc. I'm sure everyone involved are very nice people who are just trying to make a living, and I sympathize with that. But this is about making your community a priority. Also, this got long.Collapse )
The BoardGameGeek Store has listed the Envoy and Black Market as available for pre-order, with an estimated ship date of March 15, 2009.

The charged price is $0.01, with "Dominion Promo Shipping" of $4.99. So, $5 for 22 cards (10 Kingdom cards, plus 1 blue-backed placeholder, per set).
